Keeping Me on My Toes

My children informed me that I had missed an important holiday. They did not like or appreciate my premature spring decor that I was so proud of. And I have to agree with them. So I got to work thinking of some fun new ways to decorate for Valentine's Day this year. I like to keep it simple because V-Day decor can get cartoonish real quick. I only have a small handful of things for this holiday and when I pulled them out, I was not impressed. So, my trusty Cricut came to the rescue.

I cut out these cute labels and the word "love" for my red candles using vinyl, so that I could apply them like stickers and peel them off when the holiday is over. It looks like I wrote it directly onto the label...I only wish my handwriting was that pretty!

The red heart on the chalkboard is also vinyl.

These candles turned out really nice. I might even add a piece of ribbon to go underneath the label for a little extra detail.

And I completely changed out all the decor on my buffet in the kitchen. No new ground breaking ideas here, just my trusty standbys. Y'all have got to be sick to death of me and my paper wrapped candles. Have I completely run this idea into the ground?? I, myself, never tire of it. It's an oldie...... but a goody! The frame on the left side holds a simple greeting card from Target's dollar spot. I didn't spend one penny decorating for this holiday. I used what I already had and just tweaked it a bit. Super simple, very inexpensive, and the kiddos are happy. What more could I ask for at the end of the day than my kids be happy??? Not much I tell ya, not much.

So cute Amanda! I know what you mean. I looked over my box of V Day stuff and there was hardly anything in there. I love your ideas! You are the Cricut queen. I wish you lived closer so I could come over and have a few lessons!

Don't you love the Cricut? I love that you can cut vinyl on it. There's so many options. Yours are darling. I'm still a newbie at mine. I need to pay around with it more.

Very cute - Just the right touch to look festive without going overboard. I'm wanting a Cricut after seeing the neat things that bloggers create by using it.

I love your paper wrapped candle idea!

I adore the paper wrapped candles.

Yall stop talking about the Cricut, I am drooling but it is very far down my list of purchases.

Maybe we should have a 'cute stuff with cricut' button to warn folks.

Nope, not tired of the paper wrapped candles! I think it's the easiest way to change up or add some seasonal interest to a plain candle. I do little touches like you've done for Valentine's Day, too.

Lookin' good! I think I bought that LOVE card a few days ago...now I may keep it for myself. ;) I could never tire of you and your lovely paper wrapped candles...I actually like seeing all the neat paper patterns you choose. :)

Which cartridge(s) did you use for these projects?

Hey, Amanda, thanks for stopping by. Love your little touches for Valentines. That is one I don't decorate for, but it's cute when you have kids at home.

And girl, I can't sew a straight line either, so if I can sew that throw, so can you! Believe me, my sewing skills are minimal, at best.

I love these ideas! So cute--just the right amount of Valentine's fun without going overboard.

No, I am not tired of your paper-wrapped candles. In fact, I just bought some plain candles so that I can imitate you.

Please tell me: is a Cricut worth the money?

Nope, I am not tired of your paper wrapped candles. I have been meaning to get to the dollar store to get some of my own candles to paper wrap. Everything you've done looks really cute.

Love this, Amanda! What are your favorite Cricut cartridges? I haven't cut vinyl yet... for some reason, I'm intimidated... I know I need to get over it and buy some vinyl.

I just started to decorate for Valentine's Day. I put scrapbook paper in hurricane vases and inside of trays as well as pink paper inside of jars. Now even the peppermint looks festive. I love the "love signs" for your candles, I might do something similar for some mirrors...or maybe a red wreath for the door?

I'm a newbie to blogging and am so not sick of your paper wrapped candles (this is only the second time I've seen you do it) and I've loved it both times!! Inspiration that can be done on the cheap, love it!

Nice tweaking - some red and hearts for the kids, and some nests and birds for you.

You're so right about V-day decorations quickly becoming silly-looking. You struck just the right balance, though!

really cute blog. I have had so much fun exploring your projects. It looks like the wedding was a huge hit.

I love it when you do stuff with your cricut. I take away so much inspiration! I have yet to get any vinyl...but I am soon. I tried their stencil material and HATED it. Even after following all the settings, the material didn't cut. I ended up returning it.

I'm new to your blog, but I LOVE the paper-wrapped candles. And I have no idea what a Cricut is (Google to the rescue!) but those letters and the red heart look awesome!
