Smokin' Deal on Birds!

I am in love with these cutie patootie birds! Aren't they the cutest? They come in a pack of 12 for $1.99 at Michael's...yeah, I know, super cheap! Of course...they don't come this way straight from the store. They are those fiberboard unfinished wood thingies. All I did was flip the bird upside down and trace it onto the back of cute scrapbook paper...cut it out...then mod podge it onto the front of the bird...wait for it to dry...then give it a few good coats of mod podge on the top to seal.

eAsY PeAsY!

I am not quite finished with them yet, though. Mine need one more coat of mod podge, and then I'm gonna hot glue a cute vintage button on each one for an eye. I'm much too impatient to wait to show you the finished product. I couldn't wait to share my good deal with ya'll. If you're looking for a fun, cheap, easy weekend project...this is it. I have lots of different ideas rolling around in this crazy head of mine as to what I'm gonna do with these little birdies. I'm thinking a baby mobile, some cute pencil cups, more dollar store plaques, and baby shower party favors. Let me know if you give these a try. I'd love to see what you come up with!

  5. must.go.to.michaels.NOW! How stinkin' cute...and the baby mobile...girl, you've got me thinking...and I'm not even pregnant at the moment! I'm curious to know where you live. I think we'd be great friends in real-life and have little craft days...man, we'd get in some trouble together at the Dollar Tree and the craft stores. Ugh, please tell me you live nearby!

  25. OK I have a question about Mode podge for you. Everyone makes it look so easy. So today at Michaels I bought these cute little gold frames there were about 10 of them for 99cents. I thought we'll just mode podge them, how hard can that be?!?! WELL I don't know what my daughter and I did wrong BUT....lol...it didn't work! HELP!!!! LOL Thanks just another gal blogging but who would also love to be modge podging!! :)

  26. Oh So Cute!! If it were me, I would hang them on my 'branch tree'. AKA old branches painted white, put in a urn, and set on a table. : )
Can't wait to see your take on it.

  30. I love the birds. I am not a bird girl-I have tried, I am quite ashamed to admit this. But-the scrapbook paper is making me love these! They would be super cute for easter under a dome or in a nest, or in a nest under a dome!!!
I would make sure to keep a few of those around for easter! In fact, you should save a couple-and send them to me! :)
Thanks for the ideas. I am super excited to send you your stuff. I hope that you love it.
Do the etsy. It's too fun! You wont fail-you will do awesome. Think of the extra cash that you will have to craft with and thrift with and do whatever with. No hubby to tell you no! :) maybe yours doesn't ever tell you no! Not fair if that is the case!!

  31. Love the birdies--never thought of covering them with scrap paper. I'm like you--too impatient to see finished products!
Found you over at http://happybrownhouse.blogspot.com and was wondering where in south MS you are--as I am also in south MS. Maybe we could get together sometime to share ideas or craft or just walk through Michaels or Hancock Fabrics. You can find me at http://shellsspecialty.blogspot.com

    Happy week ahead~ Les

  39. Oh, just too, too much cuteness! I will absolutely be going to Michael's to get some. I host Easter every year and am thinking these would make adorable little "namecards" at each place setting. I usually put a little cellophane bag with goodies in for everybody and I think I will tie these on the outside w/ a name on them. Thanks so much for the (cheap) idea!
