I am loving how this wall turned out. It was quite the process, but I am so glad it's finally done. It was much harder than I had anticipated coming up with an asymmetrical arrangement for my plates. The Nester talked about hanging plates freestyle last week, and of course hers looked amazing and effortless. I spent the last couple weeks playing around with different arrangements and finally stumbled upon one I loved. I wanted it to have that organic, free flowing look. Ummmm...not so easy for a girl who craves symmetry. I had a general idea of where I wanted them to be and how I wanted them to look, but I was getting really frustrated with the process. So I just started hanging them without thinking too much. Apparently, this is the way to go when hanging plates "freestyle". I absolutely LOVE it!
I think my knockoff of this PB version is pretty kick butt!
I found the black and white damask and zebra plates at TJ Maxx, 4 to a box for $6.99. I think that was the turning point of this project. These amazing plates were exactly what I didn't even know I was looking for. The zebra ties in with my zebra rug and the damask compliments my drapery panels. I had a few leftover, so I hung them above the bathroom light fixture.
Perfection!
I am soooooo close to finishing this room I can taste it. I still need a bathroom mirror and to finish my desk area and shelving, but I can actually see an end in sight. Thank goodness! Have you ever started a project or room redo thinking it would be easy and it turns out to be the never ending story??? Apparently, I have a problem with biting off more than I can chew. Will I ever learn?

That looks great! :) I would never know you didn't get those plates at PB!
Wow- it looks fabulous!!!
Your plate wall makes me want to do one of my own! And yes, I frequently start simple projects that somehow morph, spinning off whole new projects...when I finally get done, I usually feel proud, tho!
Ha ha, I am the original unfinished project lady, I think! I think your plates look maaahh-velous (love the His & Hers ?closets? by the way).

Looks FANTASTIC! Love the damask plates (the chandelier and sillhouette plate are pretty amazing too)!
Best wishes,
Tammy
PERFECTION!! I am drooling over this and so in love with your design. BRAVO!
Love it and love how you incorporated the lampshade in as almost a plate itself. That is exactly what I would have to do because I am super crazy about things being symmetrical!
Stunning!
Score on the damask plates... I am so mad at myself, I had zebra plates that look just like yours in my cart from Ross the other day for 8.99 and I put them back... I so want to do a black and white plate grouping in my front room one on each side of my entertainment center... Love your inspiration.. I actually saw that same picture floating around in blog land in Oct. LOVE WHAT YOU DID, great job, looks fab.
Looks amazing! I love all of those plates! Goes perfect in your room.
Hugs,
Lee Laurie
Holy cow! I am drooling as I type! Your wall turned out soooo cute and I actually like it way better than PB's.
P.S. May I please borrow your zebra plates for my daughter's zebra b-day party this summer? HA HA! We are all about zebras at our house right now!
You nailed it (haha)! Seriously, it looks fantastic.
And do I know about reno projects taking forever to finish.
Nah. You'll always bite off more than you can chew. And then you'll figure out a new way to chew. But I wouldn't want you to be any different--this is one of the things that makes you lovable!
Will any of us ever learn, Amanda? I think not; not when there are so many things we can change about our homes! : ) At least you can know you are not alone. I think this came out great. Maybe that was the key ~ not putting so much thought into it. I sometimes like to refer to the theory of K.I.S.S. for some projects.
The plates look really great!

You did it again! It looks amazing, keep going I want to see it when its all finished. The his and her signs are fantastic!
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Black and white just seem to call my name and you really did a fabulous job.
I love plates on the wall. I have them everywhere. Your plates are awesome. The arrangement, design, and colors are spectacular!!
J'adore! I am loving the zebra plates, but the best thing is the damask b/c you weren't even looking for them. I need to go to Marshalls and see if I find anything I am not looking for. ;) I think you did a great job freestylin' it...I'd have a hard time with that too!
Ok, THAT is gorgeous! I love it! I think you've just inspired the wall over my short bookcases! :)
Lovin' the black and white theme!
Girl...........it looks awesome! Do you wanna hang out at my house this summer?!?!?! :-)
Amanda you totally rock. Great PB Knockoff. You really have a knack girlfriend. I have a hard time with freeform. I need to work on that...dang it...but that wouldn't be freely decorating then would it? tee hee!
Looks really great!!
Believe it or not...my husband has an amazing eye for hanging anything!
I knew it would be beautiful...I was waiting for it:)
Wow...
That's all I can say!
That looks AMAZING! I have a wall in my dining room that would look GREAT on! I am going to have to start looking for plates now!

I just did a mod art project using some scrap plywood and my great silhouette-ing skills. I don't think that's a word, but just understand I had no idea what to call my skills.... Here's the link if you are interested. I think it looks pretty hip, and it cost me nothing!:

Oh yours looks LOVELY!
I think in the fall I'm going to add vinyl letters numbers, silhouetts and stuff to mine!
And yes, I totally threw my plate wall up in a matter of 30 minutes. there are a few plates that are too close together or too far apart but, I'm not too bothered with it...yet.
What a great look! I like it way better than PB's. Can't wait to see everything done.
I know I already commented on this. It's just such a great idea! You should come by today's Bargain Brag Wednesday and link up: http://www.bargainshoppingparadise.com/2010/04/bargain-brag-wednesday-414-420.html
Wonderful! You are amazing!
I LOOOOOVE IT! It turned out great! I have one question though, where is that squarish plate with the big polka dots? I have been thinking about that plate since you showed us a picture of it.
Looks great!

Those are spectacular! They look so elegant. I'm a sucker for anything in black and white!
Gor-gee-ous ! Just stunning ! Love the medley of black and white mixed prints and hello, the assymetrical 'freestyle' gallery is awesome ! Fabulosity !

I love your wall, you've put that together so well! I've got this linked to my plate walls post too today, for inspiration!
Isn't it great when you find exactly what you were looking for even though you had no idea you were looking for it? :-) Your black & white plate wall looks great, and I'm seriously loving those zebra plates!
All of my projects/re-dos turn into never-ending stories! But I'm getting better - in the past 6 days, I've finished two projects that have been in the planning stages for months :-)
