I went to the dollar store the other day looking for semi-cute containers to organize 547 barbie outfits, 87 pair of barbie shoes, and 43 barbie dolls. But instead of finding those, I stumbled upon some cute unfinished wood cutouts that I thought had great potential for cuteness. I couldn't resist them. I plan to use these in the girls' room to accessorize the next big project I'm working on....(such a tease, right?)
This is what we started with. Notice the paint smudge on the bottom. Upon realizing I hadn't taken a before picture, I grabbed this one out of my 4 year old's paint covered hands and snapped it real quick before the full blown meltdown happened. She wanted to "help" me paint so bad.....I think she ended up doing a fantastic job!
After she went to bed, I got out the mod podge and paper scraps and went to town. I've missed my old friend mod podge....it's been a long time.
I think they turned out so cute and will be the perfect compliment to the new color scheme in the girly room! I am really dragging my feet on this room's redo. Why, you ask? Well, part of the transformation involves taking the crib out and putting my 2 and 4 year old in a queen size bed together. That scares me just a bit. I fear that they will never sleep again. So....any tips for keeping them in their bed and getting them to actually sleep!?!?!

Yup...that's what I thought.
Those turned out sooo cute! I love the paper. I posted my Dollar Tree picture frames today! They went from ugly to zebra!
ReplyDeleteMy kids sleep together (ages 3 and 6) and it actually works out just fine! I bet your kids will be the same way!
those look great! such a fun idea, I bet their room will turn out looking fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThese are a-dor-a-ble. Well done!
ReplyDeleteMod Podge just calls to me. . . Glad to know that you're back at it!
Here's my two cents' worth about the sleeping situation: I'd keep the baby in the crib for as long as she'll stay there. I do love a crib. Once that time is definitely past, I'd just put them together in the queen-sized bed and read them the riot act about going TO SLEEP. If they're used to sharing a room, I don't think it'll be that big a deal for them to share a bed.
These are great! I'll have to keep my eyes open for this kind of thing when I shop there. www.satisfiedsole.com
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are adorable! If you figure out the secret to getting them to stay in bed please let me know. My oldest has only been in a big girl bed for about 5 months (she just turned 3) and she did great for the first couple of months staying in bed, but now the 9 o'clock Dance of Joy has turned into the 10 o'clock Dance of if you don't get in that bed and stay there I am going to your big girl bed back into a crib! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGoing to Finslippy is a perfect example of how one can get lost in cyberspace for hours, following one link after another! Thanks...I think. www.satisfiedsole.com
ReplyDeleteYou really can make anything look good.
ReplyDeleteManda,
ReplyDeleteAnne Pearce and Essie are sleeping together in a full sized bed, and it's been going pretty good. The only thing with my girls is that AP kicks and scratches Essie when she gets on her nerves! ;) They're sleeping just as well as they did before. I lay down and sing to them after their daddy read to them to get them calmed down. I love having the extra space in the room.....
Major trés cuteness!!! ;) Love the patterns you put together. If you can get the 4 year and the 2 year to sleep together, you will be my new personal hero. I am still on the fence with the bunk beds idea, but my 2 year seems most happy in her crib, so I'm going with that until she starts to climb out. I am a coward. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Wouldn't these make adorable clocks sitting on a nighstand?!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I can't wait to see what the other project your working on is!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I have no advice for getting the kids to sleep.
Being a totally mean mom, I invested in the child door knob covers and put it on the inside of the room that Allison and Hailey share. Allison can't open it, and Hailey was threatened with death. After 2 nights of crying for about 20 minutes, Allison (she barely turned 2)now goes right to bed without a fight. After they are asleep, I open the door so they can get out if they need to. I did this with all my kids, and after a while you can take the doorknob thing off entirely!
ReplyDeleteCuuuute.
ReplyDeleteFar as the whole sleeping things...yea, no advice here ^_^
We are about to move our 2 & 4 year old into the same room in bunk beads and I have the same fears! They are such good sleepers now but I just know they are going to play all night once they are in the same room!
ReplyDeleteMy mom did the same thing to me and my younger sister...all I can say is we got in trouble A LOT for not going to bed...but they will have tons of fun memories if that counts for something :)
ReplyDeletehmmmm.... could you fashion something canopy/tent-ish like shown in this link? That'd be FUN!
