I found myself in a pickle this morning. It is my best friend's birthday and we are meeting in 2 hours for lunch. I have no gift and barely enough time to shower, much less time to go to the store and find the perfect gift. So, what's a resourceful girl to do? Well, I pulled out a nice big frame I was saving for a rainy day such as this and went to town.
I cut a scrap of canvas dropcloth to fit the inside of the frame. I think it looks really nice. In fact, if you just glance at it, you could almost mistake it for linen...almost. Then I used my cricut and the sure cuts a lot software to cut out her last name and the established date in black vinyl. I love this font! I downloaded it for free from dafont.com...it's called Renaissance. Very girly and traditional and absolutely perfect for my friend!
I then appiled the vinyl lettering directly onto the glass of the frame. If she ever wants a different look, she only needs to switch out the piecce of fabric that's already there. I think this turned out so nice....I hope she loves it! I love it so much that I want to make one for my bedroom now. But I wonder.....how many monograms can one family have before it looks out of control??? Can you really have too many monograms? I'm obviously NOT the person to ask.....so, what do y'all think?
Perfect. Umm, asl long as your wall isn't wallpapered with monograms-though now that I think of it, that might look kind of cool.
ReplyDeletethat is wonderful gift!! you can't have too many monogrammed objects, but you can wear or display too many at once. would you wear a monogrammed headband, necklace, purse, shirt and sandals at the same time? no. but you might do the necklace and shoes, or headband and purse. keep it simpler :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous!! Ok-going on line right now-I MUST have that software!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT...great job. I just heart my cricut, but don't have the software. A must apparently.
ReplyDeleteHope the birthday lunch is perfect!
And the answer is NO! You cannot have too many monograms. :)
I love this!!!
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking of making something like this for my cousin who is getting married in August. Now I know what to do. I'll have to order vinyl though.
Trust you to come up with something that lovely in a pinch. I am sure your friend will love it.
ReplyDeleteI would!

I think it is fabulous! I love personal gifts. And I like that you put the vinyl on the glass so she can change it up in the future. I am sure she loved it!
ReplyDeleteOne can NEVER have to many monograms :-) Looks fantastic! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, Amanda! What a great gift ~ I'd love one of these. I don't know ~ how many is too many? I have 7, so I don't think I have enough yet to answer that question. ; )
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and I like how she can change the look by changing the background. You can never have too many monograms, but I think you're asking the wrong person here. Do you remember my wall?
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm going to make one for me :O) Since the board I made in at a super saturday had my name misspelled and I still haven't reordered the vinyl letters.
ReplyDeleteNO!!!! Never too many monograms!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI wish you were my friend and had made me one of those for my birthday yesterday! LOL Great idea! Thanks for sharing!!!!

Very nice! And, I am sure much more appreciated than just picking something up at the gift store...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! I wish I lived closer so you could give me a Cricut tutorial. I have not figured mine out all all!

ReplyDeleteChelsea
love this idea....where do you find vinyl for projects like this? what side of the glass did you adhere the vinyl letters to? If you run your fingers over the glass, do you feel the letters?
ReplyDeleteAwsome! You know you could do that for Holidays. I may copy that. Put Celebrate on the front and put different Holiday fabric behind it. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteI am ordering software! Love this...
ReplyDeletePerfect gift! it turned out lovely!

This was just what I was looking for! I had been wanting to hang a beautiful picture of the Rexburg Temple on the left side of our TV, but couldn't figure out what to put on the right side. My husband couldn't figure why there had to be something on each side. I saw your post, whipped out my Cricut and a frame I was saving for a rainy day. AMAZING! When my husband came home from work and saw the 2 frames finally up on the wall he said, oh yeah it does look better like that! THANK YOU
ReplyDeleteAmanda, what a great idea!! I love it!You are so talented!! I also love your sweet vignette...those number orbs look great! ;) Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Victoria
What a great idea! This turned out great. Much better than something random you could have grabbed at the mall anyhow. Personal, handmade gifts are always the best!
ReplyDeleteGotta get me a cricut soon. I'm not sure how many times I need to tell the hubby " I don't mind if my birthday gift comes early" for him to pick up on it.
Imagine what you could come up with if you had more time?! What a great gift idea, especially the idea of changing the background.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Tammy
Thanks for sharing the font info! I have been looking for that "perfect" font to do our own family name and established bit. Now I can go use that! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteYou can never have too many monograms. Or shoes. Or handbags.
ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful!
